Updated October 9, 2026. I run VibeAds, one of the tools compared here. VibeAds was built mostly for home service trades; this page says what carries over to tutoring and what does not.
Which AI tool is best for tutoring Google Ads?
For a local tutor or learning center, VibeAds is a sensible pick: it builds Search campaigns for "tutor near me" and subject searches, blocks people looking for free practice tests, course platforms or teaching jobs, and tracks calls and form leads, from $20/month. It does not connect to tutoring, scheduling or billing software, so it cannot tell Google which leads enrolled; you mark those yourself. Local Services Ads list "Tutor" as a category, so check availability in your city. If you sell online courses nationally, Performance Max or a multi-platform tool such as Ryze AI is a closer fit than a local-first tool.

The free-practice-test trap
Our education keyword basket shows the main risk clearly. About 43% of head-term search volume was practice tests and exam prep: "asvab practice exam" had a median of 480 monthly searches per city but a high bid of only $3.83. Most of those people want a free test, not a tutor. Compare that with the plain word "tutor":
| Keyword | Cities priced | Median low bid | Median high bid | Who is searching |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| tutor | 50 | $5.79 | $16.54 | Looking for a tutor |
| math tutor | 6 | $6.39 | $20.59 | Subject tutor |
| sat test prep classes | 3 | $6.40 | $22.95 | Paid prep, planned |
| math learning center | 5 | $3.24 | $8.87 | Center-based program |
| tutoring and learning center | 50 | $0.78 | $4.43 | Mixed; often research |
| sql tutor | 23 | $1.67 | $4.96 | Adult learner, often online |
| sat exam practice test | 40 | $0.90 | $3.00 | Usually wants a free test |
| asvab practice exam | 50 | $0.52 | $3.83 | Usually wants a free test |
| ged testing practice | 30 | $0.43 | $1.88 | Usually wants a free test |
Bid figures are Google Keyword Planner top-of-page bid estimates pulled for 50 US cities in September 2026. They are what advertisers bid to reach the top of the page, not what a click costs you; your real cost per click is usually lower and moves with Quality Score.
Advertisers bid $5.79 to $16.54 on "tutor" across 50 cities, several times the practice-test terms, because that is where paying parents are. If you run test prep, bid on "prep classes" and "tutor" phrasing and add "free" and "practice test" as negatives unless you offer a free diagnostic as a lead magnet.
City spread
| City | Median low bid | Median high bid | Priced keywords | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Highest | Atlanta | $3.50 | $14.12 | 300 |
| Highest | Washington, DC | $3.16 | $13.56 | 204 |
| Highest | Houston | $3.51 | $13.56 | 443 |
| Middle of 50 cities | $2.07 | $8.79 | ||
| Lowest | Omaha | $0.56 | $3.29 | 92 |
| Lowest | Albuquerque | $0.71 | $3.84 | 122 |
| Lowest | Oklahoma City | $1.06 | $4.68 | 117 |
For "tutor" alone, the highest high-end bids were in Kansas City, Minneapolis and Omaha. City pages: New York, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Phoenix, Denver, Raleigh.
Negatives for tutoring
| Group | From VibeAds' education list |
|---|---|
| Free resources | khan academy, free tutoring, free worksheets, free practice test, free courses |
| Course platforms | coursera, udemy, edx |
| Jobs | tutor salary, teaching jobs, teacher salary, become a tutor, tutor certification |
| College admissions | college applications, college acceptance rates, scholarship applications |
VibeAds deliberately keeps "exam", "school", "college", "course" and "class" out of the universal blocklist for tutoring, because "SAT prep class" and "college essay tutor" are the business.
Who you are really advertising to
Parents usually buy K-12 tutoring, and Google does not show personalized ads to users under 18, so aim copy and landing pages at the parent: outcomes you can honestly describe, session format, schedule, price range and a booking link. Adult learners (nursing entrance exams, coding, ESL) search differently and should get their own campaign.
Setting up a tutoring campaign
- Decide what counts as a lead: a booked consultation or assessment, not a page view. Track calls and form fills as separate conversions (conversion tracking video).
- Split campaigns by program: K-12 subjects, test prep, adult learners. Each gets its own budget and page.
- Set a radius that matches where families will actually drive, or the area you serve online if you only tutor remotely.
- Load the negatives above before the first click.
- Because enrollments cannot flow back automatically, update each lead's status in the CRM so you can see which campaign produced paying students.
- Recheck search terms weekly for the first month; tutoring queries drift toward free resources quickly.
When to spend
Our budget planner's education curve peaks in August (about 40% above an average month), with June, July and September high and December lowest. Back-to-school and summer programs drive it; schedule test-prep budgets around your local exam dates.
What VibeAds does and does not do here
Does: Search campaigns per subject or program, landing pages per ad group, call tracking with AI scoring, a lead CRM with email follow-up, and reviews twice a day on Pro and Max. On Max, hands-free mode only makes small bid changes and blocks clearly wasted search terms, after a campaign's first week.
Does not: connect to tutoring or billing software, so no enrollment revenue goes to Google; run Local Services Ads, Meta or YouTube; or manage national course launches.
Is Google Ads worth it for a small tutoring business?
Often, if you keep it local and narrow. "Tutor" and subject-plus-tutor searches carry clear buying intent, and a small radius around your center or service area keeps spend tied to families you can serve. The practice-test searches are where small budgets disappear.
Should a tutor bid on "SAT practice test"?
Only if you have a free diagnostic test that collects a parent's contact details and you follow up. Otherwise those clicks are mostly students looking for free material; our data had "sat exam practice test" at a high bid of $3.00, a sign other advertisers see little return there.
