Last updated October 9, 2026. I run VibeAds, which is one of the tools below. Google policy points link to Google's own help pages.
Why can't any AI tool run locksmith ads on day one?
Because Google won't serve locksmith ads at all until the business passes Advanced Verification. Google's policy lists locksmith services in the United States and Canada as a category that must complete it for both Google Ads and Local Services Ads (Advanced Verification policies). The check reviews your business registration and licenses and includes a video interview. Until it is done, the best AI tool in the world is waiting on paperwork. Start the verification first and set the campaign up while you wait.
So which AI tool is best for a locksmith once verified?
For an independent locksmith or a small shop with a few vans, VibeAds is the best fit: it builds separate campaigns for lockouts, car keys and rekeying, starts with negatives for key-copy and lock-picking searches, and tracks and scores every call, from $20/month. Local Services Ads are worth adding once verified, though Google does not offer pre-badge LSA for locksmiths, so you wait for the full badge. Google AI Max helps once calls are tracked. Ryze AI suits businesses advertising across many platforms. Larger multi-van operations may prefer an agency.
| If you are | Start with |
|---|---|
| Not yet verified | Google Advanced Verification, then everything else |
| Solo or small shop, phone-first | VibeAds Pro, $20/month |
| Verified and want per-lead pricing | Local Services Ads beside Search |
| Already tracking calls well | AI Max on the car key campaign as a test |
| Several vans across a metro | An agency with home-services experience |

What are locksmith keywords worth by city?
Locksmith clicks are cheaper than most people expect. The middle of the 46 cities we have data for bid $3.35 to $13.31 to reach the top of the page. Kansas City stood out at a $30.47 high-end median, while El Paso sat at $0.70 to $3.72.
| City | Median low bid | Median high bid | Priced keywords | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Highest | Kansas City | $3.74 | $30.47 | 84 |
| Highest | Jacksonville | $5.72 | $21.25 | 112 |
| Highest | Denver | $6.10 | $21.08 | 129 |
| Middle of 46 cities | $3.35 | $13.31 | ||
| Lowest | El Paso | $0.70 | $3.72 | 69 |
| Lowest | New Orleans | $1.48 | $3.94 | 65 |
| Lowest | Albuquerque | $1.75 | $5.36 | 96 |
Bid figures are Google Keyword Planner top-of-page bid estimates pulled for 50 US cities in September 2026. They are what advertisers bid to reach the top of the page, not what a click costs you; your real cost per click is usually lower and moves with Quality Score.
| Keyword | Cities priced | Median low bid | Median high bid | What the searcher wants |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| locksmith near me | 46 | $5.03 | $16.99 | Locked out or needs a locksmith now |
| locksmith | 46 | $4.96 | $15.75 | Mixed |
| car locksmith near me | 46 | $4.57 | $15.02 | Car lockout or lost car key |
| car key replacement | 20 | $2.74 | $12.50 | Lost car key, planned |
| fob key replacement | 24 | $1.18 | $8.41 | Replace a fob, often shopping around |
| key maker near me | 35 | $0.86 | $8.43 | Usually a key copy |
| key copy near me | 46 | $0.30 | $4.98 | A key copy at a hardware counter |
| keys made near me | 18 | $0.60 | $5.04 | A key copy |
Two things stand out. First, the word "emergency" barely registers: "emergency locksmith near me" had a price in only 3 of 46 cities. People locked out type "locksmith near me", so that term is your emergency keyword. Second, key-copy searches are a large slice of the traffic: about 18% of the priced head-term searches in our data were for copying or making keys, with high-end bids around $4.98. Those people mostly want a hardware counter, not a van.
Searches a locksmith should block
| Block | Examples (from VibeAds' starting locksmith list) |
|---|---|
| Lock-picking hobby | lock pick set, lock picking, lock sport, lock picking lawyer |
| Buying hardware | padlock buy, deadbolt buy, smart lock buy, lock set buy, key blank |
| DIY | key cutting diy |
| Careers | locksmith salary, locksmith school, locksmith certification, locksmith training |
| Price-only and scam research | cheap, cheapest, locksmith scam |
Decide on key copying yourself. If you cut keys at a storefront, keep those terms in a small, low-bid ad group. If you are mobile only, block "key copy" and "keys made". The "cheap" negative is a judgment call too: "cheap locksmith near me" was priced in 8 cities at bids similar to the core terms, so some of those callers do hire.
How should the landing page and phone setup work?
A locksmith page should look like a real local business, because the trade has a scam problem and searchers know it. Show the business name that matches your verification, your license number where your state issues one, real photos of your van and staff, and a straight answer on how you quote (a service call fee plus labor, or whatever you actually do). Put the phone number at the top and make it tap-to-call. Only promise "24/7" or "in 30 minutes" if you can deliver; a promise the van cannot keep turns into a bad review.
Split pages by job: a lockout page that is little more than a call button, a car key page that asks for make and model, and a rekey or lock change page for planned work. VibeAds builds one page per ad group; see the landing pages video.
Getting calls to teach the bidding
- Complete Advanced Verification and match your ad, site and Business Profile names exactly.
- Track every call. VibeAds records with a consent notice, transcribes, scores each call 0 to 100, and reports qualified ones to Google (call tracking video), so a wrong number or a key-copy question does not count like a lockout.
- Run lockout, car key and rekey as separate ad groups with separate pages.
- Bid from your city's range and start conservatively; locksmith demand is fairly flat across the year in our budget planner's curve, with a small rise in December.
- If you schedule and invoice in Jobber, new leads can land there on Pro, and paid invoices can go back to Google as revenue on Max (Jobber video). Jobber is our only field-service integration.
- On Max, hands-free mode only makes small bid changes and blocks search terms that wasted money for a week, never in a campaign's first 7 days; anything bigger asks you.
City pages with local data: Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Washington, DC.
Where VibeAds stops
- It does not do Advanced Verification for you; that is between you and Google.
- It runs Google Search ads only, not Local Services Ads or Maps listings.
- The agent reviews campaigns twice a day on Pro and Max, so a midnight problem waits for the next review.
- Jobber is the only field-service integration; there is no dispatch tool.
- Clicks are billed by Google, separate from the $20 or $149 plan.
How long does locksmith Advanced Verification take?
Google does not publish a fixed timeline. The process includes a document review and a video interview, so it moves as fast as you can supply registration and license documents and book the interview. Ads in the category cannot serve until it is complete, so start it before you build the campaign.
Are Local Services Ads worth it for locksmiths?
They can be, because locksmiths are an eligible LSA category and you pay per lead rather than per click. The catch is timing: Google lists locksmiths among the categories without pre-badge ads, so you only show once full verification and the badge are done. Search ads give you keyword-level control that LSA does not.
Can AI Max work for a locksmith?
Carefully. AI Max broadens matching, which in this trade drifts quickly into key copying and hardware shopping. Use it only after call tracking is reliable, keep text customization off until you have read what it writes, and watch the search terms report. Our AI Max guide goes through the settings.
