ChatGPT can't open your Google Ads account on its own. It needs a connector: a server that speaks the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and does the Google Ads work for it. VibeAds runs one at https://getvibeads.com/api/mcp. You add it to ChatGPT once, sign in to VibeAds, and from then on you can ask ChatGPT about your campaigns in plain English.
This guide covers the setup, what ChatGPT can and can't do once it's connected, and the prompts worth trying first.
What do I need before I start?
- A ChatGPT account. Custom connectors live in ChatGPT's developer mode, which a Free account can turn on too. In a work or school workspace, an admin may have to allow developer mode first.
- A VibeAds account. It's free to create. Reading your campaigns works on every plan; drafting, importing, recommendations and publishing come with Pro ($20 a month) or Max.
- Google Ads connected to VibeAds, if you want ChatGPT to read live numbers or publish. If it isn't connected yet, ChatGPT hands you a link to connect it when it needs one.
You don't need a Google Ads developer token, a Google Cloud project or an API key. ChatGPT never sees your Google login: VibeAds holds the Google connection, and ChatGPT holds a VibeAds sign-in you can disconnect any time.
How do I connect ChatGPT to Google Ads?
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode.
- Open Plugins in the sidebar, press +, and choose Create custom MCP server. Name it VibeAds, paste
https://getvibeads.com/api/mcpas its public endpoint, and create it. - Open Settings, then Plugins, then VibeAds, and press + next to Connect another account. ChatGPT opens VibeAds: sign in and press Allow access.
- Start a new chat and ask: "Show me my Google Ads campaigns in VibeAds."
Creating the server in step 2 doesn't start the sign-in on its own; step 3 does. VibeAds emails you when an assistant is connected to your account, so a connection you didn't make never goes unnoticed.
What can ChatGPT do with my Google Ads account?
Once it's connected, ChatGPT can:
- Report on performance. Spend, clicks, conversions and cost per lead for each campaign, plus a 0 to 100 health score.
- Find wasted spend. The search terms that cost money without bringing a single conversion, and the ones that convert.
- List what to fix. The issues VibeAds' optimizer found, highest priority first, with the fix for each.
- Draft a new campaign. Keywords, ad copy and ad groups for your trade, budget and service area, built as a draft that spends nothing.
- Bring in campaigns you already run, so VibeAds' optimizer covers them, and pause a live campaign.
- Make the everyday edits. Add negative keywords or keywords, pause a keyword, or change a bid or a daily budget. Each change is listed on the campaign's Optimize tab in VibeAds, where you can undo it.
- Work through Google's own recommendations from your account's Recommendations page, and apply the ones that fit VibeAds' rules.
Can ChatGPT spend my ad budget?
Not without you. Publishing a campaign goes live in your own Google Ads account, billed to you by Google, so VibeAds holds two lines:
- Within the daily limit you set (Settings, Connected apps in VibeAds; $100 a day unless you change it or turn it off), ChatGPT tells you the campaign's daily budget and publishes only after you confirm it in the chat. VibeAds emails you when it goes live.
- Anything above that, and raising a campaign's daily budget by more than 20%, comes back as a link you open and approve in VibeAds. ChatGPT can show you the link but can't approve it for you.
Reading never changes anything, and every change ChatGPT makes runs through the same safety checks as the VibeAds dashboard.
Which prompts should I try first?
- "How are my Google Ads campaigns doing this week?"
- "Which search terms are wasting my budget?"
- "What should I fix first in my account?"
- "What does Google recommend for my Austin campaign, and which of those can you apply?"
- "Draft a Google Ads campaign for my plumbing business in Dallas with a $1,500 monthly budget."
What if it doesn't work?
- ChatGPT says Google Ads isn't connected. Open the link it gives you and connect Google Ads; then ask again. You only do this once.
- No Plugins section or Create custom MCP server button. Developer mode is off, or your workspace admin hasn't allowed it.
- ChatGPT answers from general knowledge instead of your account. Start a new chat after connecting, and mention VibeAds in your question.
- You want to disconnect. In VibeAds, open Settings, then Connected apps, and disconnect ChatGPT. It loses access within seconds.
