Updated October 9, 2026. I'm the founder of VibeAds, which is in this comparison. Legal marketing has rules that vary by state bar; nothing here is legal advice.
What's the best AI tool for a law firm's Google Ads?
It depends heavily on practice area. For a small family, divorce, tax or business law firm, VibeAds is a reasonable fit: it builds practice-area Search campaigns, blocks legal aid, law school and free-forms searches, and tracks and scores intake calls, from $20/month. It does not connect to Clio or any practice management system, so it cannot report fee revenue to Google. Local Services Ads should come first or alongside, because Google lists many practice areas, from family to estate and immigration. Personal injury is a different market: national firms and lead generators compete there, and a specialist legal marketing agency is usually the better choice. Our data does not cover personal injury terms, so this page does not price them.

The practice areas our data priced
Our keyword baskets for law firms centered on family, divorce, tax, business and contract law. Across 50 cities:
| Keyword | Cities priced | Median low bid | Median high bid | Matter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| tax attorneys | 39 | $16.96 | $59.61 | Tax problem, often urgent |
| family lawyers near me | 24 | $14.60 | $58.41 | Looking for local counsel |
| family law attorney | 50 | $10.07 | $41.00 | Custody, divorce, support |
| divorce lawyer | 50 | $8.33 | $40.30 | Divorce |
| law firm | 20 | $6.86 | $35.68 | General |
| prenup attorney | 17 | $16.89 | $33.75 | Planned, specific |
| business lawyer | 27 | $5.92 | $19.85 | Business matter |
| contract lawyer | 23 | $4.01 | $22.94 | Contract review |
| legal aid | 23 | $1.57 | $7.60 | Free or low-cost help |
Bid figures are Google Keyword Planner top-of-page bid estimates pulled for 50 US cities in September 2026. They are what advertisers bid to reach the top of the page, not what a click costs you; your real cost per click is usually lower and moves with Quality Score.
"Tax attorneys" carried the highest high-end bid of the common terms, $59.61, and "near me" versions of family law ran well above the plain terms. "Legal aid" was priced in 23 cities at a $7.60 high bid, because those searchers want free help; it is on VibeAds' negative list for law firms.
| City | Median low bid | Median high bid | Priced keywords | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Highest | Denver | $8.00 | $49.92 | 422 |
| Highest | Arlington | $6.65 | $40.06 | 190 |
| Highest | Mesa | $7.02 | $36.88 | 217 |
| Middle of 50 cities | $4.12 | $19.58 | ||
| Lowest | Kansas City | $2.66 | $8.80 | 288 |
| Lowest | Memphis | $2.45 | $10.00 | 290 |
| Lowest | Wichita | $1.85 | $10.36 | 155 |
The middle city bid $4.12 to $19.58; Denver led with a $49.92 high-end median. City pages: Los Angeles, Dallas, Seattle, Washington, DC, San Diego, Minneapolis.
Negatives for a law firm campaign
| Group | From VibeAds' law firm list |
|---|---|
| Free help | legal aid, public defender, free legal advice, legal clinic, legal forms free, legal templates |
| Students and careers | law school, LSAT, bar exam, paralegal, law firm jobs, attorney salary |
| Definitions | legal definition, law meaning, statute of limitations, legal precedent |
| Entertainment | lawyer movie, lawyer joke, better call saul, law and order |
| Online services | legalzoom, nolo, rocketlawyer |
VibeAds deliberately does not block "lawsuit" or "job" for law firms, because "wrongful termination lawsuit" and "fired from my job" are real client searches.
Local Services Ads for lawyers
Google's Local Services list for the US includes "Lawyers" plus specific practice areas: family, estate, immigration, criminal, DUI, bankruptcy, business, contract, labor, litigation, IP, disability, malpractice, real estate, traffic and personal injury (category list). Tax law is not listed by name, so a tax practice will lean more on Search. LSA charges per lead rather than per click; Search stays useful for practice-area pages and matters LSA does not categorize well.
Intake, landing pages and the phone
Most legal leads are won or lost at intake. Answer the phone during business hours at minimum, and use a short form with practice area and a callback time after hours. The landing page should name the practice area in the headline, list the attorneys and bar admissions, explain whether consultations are free or paid, and avoid result guarantees, which most state bars restrict. VibeAds builds a page per ad group (landing pages video) and keeps leads in its CRM with email follow-up (lead CRM video).
How to set it up
- Track calls and forms; scoring separates prospective clients from vendors and existing clients (call tracking video).
- One campaign per practice area, with its own budget.
- Bid from your city and practice area, not a national average.
- Load the negatives above before launch.
- Since revenue cannot flow from Clio, mark qualified consultations as your main conversion so bidding learns from real matters.
- On Max, hands-free mode only applies small bid changes and blocks search terms that wasted money for a week, after the first 7 days.
Demand is fairly steady; our budget planner's legal curve is within about 10% of average all year, a little higher in January, March, September and October.
Where VibeAds falls short for law firms
- No connection to Clio, MyCase or other practice management software.
- It is not a legal marketing compliance service; state bar advertising rules are your responsibility.
- Not built for personal injury at national-firm budgets.
- Search only: no LSA management, Meta or SEO.
- Twice-daily reviews, not continuous monitoring.
Is Google Ads worth it for a small family law firm?
It can be, because family law searches are local and the high-end bids in our data were moderate compared with home services like HVAC. The deciding factor is intake: a firm that answers quickly and tracks which calls become consultations will learn fast, while one that misses calls pays for clicks that go to the next firm.
Should personal injury firms use an AI tool like this?
Most should look at a specialist. Personal injury competition includes national firms and lead buyers with large budgets, and our keyword data did not price PI terms, so we cannot give you numbers. An agency with PI experience, plus Local Services Ads, is the more common setup.
Do AI tools write compliant attorney ads?
No tool guarantees bar-compliant copy. Review every headline yourself, avoid words like "best" or "guaranteed" where your state restricts them, and keep text customization in AI Max off until you have read what it generates.
